![]() The increasing number of artisanal producers bottling their own wine caught our eye several years ago, and today we count one Campanian grower among our ranks. But Campania’s viticultural heartland lies further inland, in the Irpinia region around Avellino: this mountainous terrain offers altitude and limestone soils where the noble Aglianico, Fiano, and Greco are capable of producing what are arguably some of southern Italy’s most complex, characterful, and often age-worthy reds and whites. ![]() The Mediterranean coastline, with bustling Napoli and towering Vesuvio as its focal point, is home to a number of light, simple wines from indigenous grape varieties, often planted in sandy volcanic soils. While winemaking here dates back to the first Greek settlers to colonize the countryside, Campania is now enjoying a wine renaissance, as small farmers are relying less and less on the co-ops that dominated the scene for decades and increasingly turning to estate-bottling to make a living and capture the richness their territory has to offer. To the nose it present warm notes of straw and Mediterranean scrub herbs.Campania enjoys an ancient history as a fine wine producer-in fact, its precious nectars were highly coveted in ancient Rome and received accolades from many important writers of the era, including Pliny the Elder. Straw yellow color, with golden reflections. Wine matches with fish and shellfish main dishes, white meats and savoury cakes or with exotic dishes such as sushi. The fermentation is carried out with selected yeast strains. Medium-textered soil, partially sandy and patrially calcareous VALENTINA VANITOSA – Irpinia Coda di Volpe Still today, in folktales the beautiful Valentina is recalled as an emblem of noble and virtuous feelings. Since then, Valentina Vanitosa (Vain Valentine) made love and friendship her main virtues. She was given the opportunity to understand that the beauty of cosmo reflects in the beauty of her soul. The dark pool had given her true image, her true identity. No longer ephemeral, elusive, inconcrete. But it was not a bright and candid image like the one she had always seen in her many mirrors, but a new image. In that red and intense image, Valentina revived herself. A jug containing wine had been poured and the dark stain covered the road and formed a large mirror. One day, shen went out and found a dark, red-colored puddle, in front of her. She couldn’t see her image in those many mirrors any longer. Valentina didn’t understand what was happening. But day by day, her reflected image became dimmer, duller. She bought arc mirrors, mirrors as big as doors, mirrors that covered entire walls. She bought bigger and bigger mirrors because those she had were never enough to reflect her image. What fed her was a spasmodic attention to herself and a constant satisfaction of that. There were no games that gain her attention. In fact, there were no friends around her. She spent long time of her day taking care of herself, rather than caring for others. Even the pure porcelain saucers of the bistrots were an excellent mirror for her, when, lifting the cup to sip the tea, she admired her reflected image. The mirrors of the boutiques and the beauty salons represented a daily practice of mirroring. At every step there wasn’t any mirror in which she did not like to reflect herself, the windows of the stores were her favorite mirrors because the whole city was full of them. To define her in one word, no adjective could be more suitable: vain. Valentina was arrogant, conceited, pretentious, just like her beauty, pure, lively, unique.
